Earlier this Spring, three very young Allen’s Chipmunks (Tamias senex) were found inside a truck that was being serviced in Oakland, about 300 miles south in the Bay Area. Chipmunks are small, striped ground squirrels found throughout North America.

Turning our attention to some brighter chipmunks of more open forests, we were delighted to find multiple broods of Panamint Chipmunk (above, with Mountain Quail) on a hill with an open Jeffrey Pine forest (recently burned) and rocky outcrops in Mono County.
