Every so often herbivores get an iron deficiency and a deficiency of minerals that are generally found in meat. Researchers claim hippos are not strict vegetarians, but often eat meat. Since the hippo is a very large animal, people often make the mistake of eating it or it is an important part of their diet.

Hippos are mostly active at night, which means their meals, meat or otherwise, usually go unseen by humans. However, hippos are vegetarians which means they only eat the life of the tree.

The hippos apparently look very tasty in the meat pass – but that doesn’t mean they should eat it. Hippos graze on land; they do not eat while in the water and aren’t known to graze on aquatic plants.
